This 1977 Lotus Esprit S1 is one of 718 examples produced between 1976 and 1978 and is said to have undergone a mechanical and interior refurbishment that was started before the current owner’s 2017 purchase and completed the following year. Finished in red over beige leather upholstery, the car is powered by a mid-mounted 1,973cc inline-four mated to a five-speed manual transaxle. Equipment includes pop-up headlights, four-wheel disc brakes, independent suspension, single-piece bucket seats, power windows, and a heater. The vehicle was listed on BaT in February 2018, and work in 2021 consisted of rebuilding the carburetors, changing the oil, aligning the doors, and replacing the starter, temperature sender, front springs, and side mirrors. This Esprit S1 is offered again at no reserve on dealer consignment with a Lotus Certificate of Vehicle Provenance, service records, and a clean California title.

The wedge-shaped fiberglass body was designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro and is mounted to a steel backbone chassis. This example wears a repaint in red carried out under prior ownership, and exterior details include pop-up headlights, a front air dam, replacement side mirrors, a rear hatch, dual fuel-filler caps, and twin exhaust outlets. The doors were aligned in 2021.

Polished 14? Wolfrace alloy wheels are wrapped in 195/60 front and 225/70 rear Hankook Optimo H724/5 tires, and a spare on a matching wheel is secured in the front trunk. The car is equipped with independent suspension, reportedly rebuilt circa 2017, as well as disc brakes all around. The front suspension springs were replaced in 2021.

The fixed-back bucket seats were reupholstered in beige leather during the refurbishment, and color-coordinated carpeting was fitted. Additional appointments include a heater, power windows, a wood shift knob, and a rear-window defroster. Cracked driver-seat upholstery is depicted in the gallery.

The two-spoke steering wheel frames green-dial Veglia instrumentation consisting of a 160-mph speedometer, an 8k-rpm tachometer, and gauges for oil pressure, coolant temperature, fuel level, and voltage. The five-digit odometer shows 24k miles, approximately 1k of which were added under current ownership. Total mileage is unknown.

The mid-mounted twin-cam 1,973cc Lotus 907 inline-four is equipped with twin Dell’Orto carburetors and was factory rated at 140 horsepower and 130 lb-ft of torque. An oil cooler, upgraded radiator, replacement cooling fans, and K&N air filters have been fitted, and the timing belt and cam pulleys were replaced in 2017. Work in 2021 included rebuilding the carburetors, changing the oil, and replacing the starter and temperature sender.
